Why Temperament Testing?
Temperament testing can be a valuable tool in a variety of situations. Prospective pet parents searching for the perfect dog from a rescue, shelter, or breeder can take advantage of temperament testing as a great way to find a good fit. Individuals wanting a Service Dog or wishing to train a Therapy Dog will need to use temperament testing to determine if the dog they're considering is a good candidate.
Temperament testing looks at how a dog behaves in regard to other people and the surrounding environment, and how a dog responds to stress. Based on the dog's responses, We can learn more about his or her personality and how the dog will fit into the home and/or work situation being considered. We can answer questions such as:
Temperament tests are a valuable tool and a good indicator of future behavior and personality. That said, they are not perfect and cannot guarantee that a dog will succeed as a Therapy Dog or Service Dog or will fit perfectly into a specific home or family. This is especially true for puppies under 6 months old, as environment, training, and socialization play a huge role in the dog's development and future success. Temperament Tests
Do you think your dog has the perfect temperament to be a Therapy Dog or Service Dog? Have you found a dog or litter you really like but aren't quite sure if he or she will be the right fit for you and your home? We are happy to come evaluating your prospective dog (or litter) and give you the feedback you need to make the best decision possible. For dogs or puppies you don't yet own, please obtain permission from the breeder, rescue, owner, etc. first. Puppies must be a minimum of 7 weeks old in order to temperament test due to brain development.
