Brooke
My name is Brooke. I am extremely passionate about what properly trained service dogs can do for individuals with disabilities. I have experienced first-hand the healing power of dogs, and it is amazing. My various dogs have been with me through many mental health diagnoses and challenges, and their loyalty never wavers.
My love of dogs has existed for as long as I can remember. I wasn't in a position to get my own dog until May of 2016, and in the process I stumbled across a mentorship program through Kat's Training Tails to become a dog trainer. Having chosen a husky as my first dog, I fully embraced learning everything that I could. When my mental health took a plunge, I started working with Molli Dogs Training to train my own service dog for psychiatric, medical alert, and mobility.
I worked with Molli with multiple of my own dogs, and was able to learn how to work with different dogs through that experience. I also had the opportunity to do several of the classes and courses she has taken along with her. I have also learned more in regards to task training from Molli, although my favorite area of service dog training is definitely public access and confidence building. I have also worked with several other amazing trainers to learn as much as I can. I have developed a particular love for dock diving with my current dog, Grim. He currently holds a novice title in the sport.
Before learning how to train dogs, I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for three years. My favorite part of that job was working with children with disabilities. I love that I am still able to help individuals with disabilities through training service dogs.
All of the dogs that I have trained for myself have had unique characteristics and challenges that have aided in making me the dog trainer that I am today. I still have a lot to learn, but I credit a large portion of my experience today to the dogs that I have had the pleasure of partnering with over the last several years.
