***TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE***

Service Dog Group Outings

Group Outings are a great way to give your dog a boost in Service Dog training. Dogs learn to remain focused while working around other dogs and get extra opportunities to practice working in public. Dogs also tend to learn from watching other dogs, so these group outings can be much more productive than a typical training session out in public. In addition, you get extra support from other Service Dog teams. Not only can you learn from watching how others handle their dogs, you can also bounce ideas off each other and get the support that comes from being part of a community.

*** Be aware that for safety and liability reasons, I will no longer approve any dog under 15 lbs for public access work. ***

Variety of Locations

Group outings will rotate between various locations, such as malls, department stores, grocery stores, parks, etc. We will occasionally visit restaurants, movie theaters, museums, community events, etc. Regular attendees will be able to give input in determining the next location.

Rotating Training Topics

It is important to be aware that these group outings are not to teach your dog how to do these behaviors. Your dog should already have a general foundation in these behaviors and cues before you come. The purpose of these group outings is to build on and strengthen many of the common behaviors and cues your dog will need to be proficient in as a service dog. The goal is that each time you come, you push your dog to his/her limits and continue to help him/her improve and grow in all of his/her capacities. So what you get out of these outings will depend on what you are willing to put into them. These group outings are to help you and your dog become the best possible service dog team!
Each group outing will focus on one of 8 rotating topics:

1. Stays and Recalls
2. Working/Focusing Around Other Dogs
3. Leave-Its
4. Impulse Control
5. Real Life: Ignoring and Avoiding Other Dogs Out in Public
6. Communicating/Focus Building
7. Socialization Scavenger Hunt
8. Novelty Outing – Museum, Zoo, Aquarium, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Community Event, etc.

Regular attendees will be able to give input to have topics focused, altered, or added in order to meet individual needs.

Please note that I do not employ the use of e-collars, prong collars, or choke chains. The top Service Dog organizations agree that dogs that require the use of stronger corrections, a heavy hand in order to handle, that have high drives, or that require the use of such tools in order to focus or keep attention on their handler do not have a desirable temperament in order to be a Service Dog. Service Dogs require very soft temperaments and should have a natural sensitivity towards people. Because of this, along with several other reasons, the use of any of these devices will result in failure of the dog from my program and/or stripping of the Molli Dogs' "Outstanding Service Dog Team" certificate. It will also disqualify you and your dog from taking the Molli Dogs' Outstanding Service Dog Test.
